Introduction
김철홍 (Chulhong Kim) 교수는 Washinton University in St. Louis에서 박사 과정을 수료한 후 현재 포항공과대학교 (Pohang University of Science and Technology, POSTECH) 의과학/공학과에서 학과장과 융합 IT 공학과에서 무은재석좌교수로 재직 중입니다. 이 외 Namgo Chair Professorship와 Young Distinguished Professorship를 인정받았으며 추가적으로 임상에서 사용되는 광음향 이미징 (photoacoustic imaging) 시스템을 상용화하고 있는 Opticho 회사의 대표로써 활동하고 있습니다. 김철홍 교수는 221 peer-reviewed 논문을 Nature sisters, PNAS 등 저명한 저널에 발표하였으며 Google Scholar h-index는 68점과 citation은 16,500을 넘었습니다. 이로써 National Academy of Engineering of Korea와 the Korean Academy of Science and Technology에 멤버로 활동 중이며 SPIE (the international society for optics and photonics)와 OPTICA 회사에 소속되어 있습니다.
김철홍 교수 연구실 – ‘BOA LAB’ – 에서는 photoacoustic 기법을 기반 기술을 다양한 분야에서 연구하였다. 연구 분야는 광음향/초음파/광학/주사탐침현미경(AFM)/무선주파수 (RF)/전기장을 사용한 Multimodal imaging, 디지털 헬스케어, 의료기기 상용화, 임상 중개 연구 (translational research)로 나뉜다. 이를 기반으로 BOA LAB에서 소개한 기술은 다음과 같다.
- 유기적 물질을 사용하여 위창자길 (gastro-intestinal tract)을 광음향으로 이미징 기법
- 광음향 방광조영술 (cytography)
- 임상에 사용될 수 있는 광음향/초음파 이미징 스캐너 (흔히 ‘Alpinion Medical’이라 알려짐)
- 2-axis water-proof MEMS scanner (licensed to MGB; spin-off company, PAMsTECH and OPTICHO
- 수술에 사용되는 가상 광음향 현미경
- 음향 복사력 (acoustic-radiation force)을 유도하는 초음파 기반인 광 간섭 단층 촬영 (optical tomography) 등
Dr. Chulhong Kim studied for his Ph.D.degree at Washington University in St. Louis.He currently holds Namgo Chair Professorship, Young Distinguished Professorship,andMueunjae Chair Professorship of Convergence IT Engineering (Department Chair)and Medical Science and Engineering(Program Chair)at POSTECH.He is the CEO of Opticho, a spinoff company to commercialize clinical photoacoustic imaging systems.He has published221peer-reviewed journal articles (Nature sisters, PNAS, etc). His Google Scholar h-index and citations have reached68 and over16,500, respectively.He is elected as a member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea and the Korean Academy of Science and Technology.He is a Fellowof theSPIEand OPTICA.
Dr. Kim runs BOA lab whose main research topics are ‘Multimodal Imaging: Photoacoustic/Ultrasound/Optical/AFM/RF/Magnetic’, ‘High-Performance Computing/Processing in CPU/GPU/DSP and Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare’, ‘Digital Healthcare’, ‘Medical Device Commercialization’, and ‘Clinical Translational Research’. Particularly, his lab developed photoacoustic gastro-intestinal tract imaging using organic agents, photoacoustic cystography, clinical photoacoustic/ultrasound imaging scanner (clinically translated with Alpinion Medical), fast optical-resolution photoacoustic microscopy based on a 2-axis water-proof MEMS scanner (licensed to MGB; spin-off company, PAMs TECH and OPTICHO), virtual intraoperative photoacoustic surgical microscopy, raster scanning based photoacoustic whole-body imaging of small animals, combined photoacoustic and optical coherence tomography using a single pulsed broadband laser source, acoustic radiation force induced ultrasound-modulated optical tomography, etc.
