Introduction

박영균 (Young-Gyun Park) 교수는 현재 한국과학기술원 (KAIST, Korea-Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) 바이오 및 뇌공학과 (Bio and Brain Engineering)에서 조교수로 재직 중이며, Neurotechnology and Brain Mapping Lab (NBML) 의 연구 책임자입니다. 박영균 교수는 KAIST에서 생명과학으로 학석박을 수료하고 박사 후 과정 동안 KAIST, Friedrich-Miescher Institute (Switzerland), 그리고 MIT에서 연구를 수행하였습니다.

주된 연구 주제는 조직투명화 및 3차원 조직 면역염색법 등 새로운 해부학 기술을 개발하고, 이를 바탕으로 신경 간 시냅스 연결을 비롯한 다양한 뇌-뇌 및 뇌-몸 세포 간 상호 작용 (intracellular interaction)을 매핑함으로써, 어떻게 생명 기능 및 질병이 유래하는 지 자세한 설명을 이끌어 내는 것입니다. 특히 기억과 생쥐의 초음파 발성과 같은 뇌 기능과, 치매나 파킨슨 같은 뇌 질환에 집중하고 있습니다. 또한 brain network에 대한 전문 지식을 기반으로 뇌 질병을 고도로 선택적이며 안전하게 치료할 수 있는 새로운 치료법을 개발하고 있습니다.

Young-Gyun Park is an Assistant Professor of the Department of Bio and Brain Engineering at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). He received his B.S. in Biology from KAIST in 2006 and his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from KAIST in 2011. He completed postdoctoral training at KAIST, Friedrich-Miescher Institute (Switzerland), and MIT. He aims to reveal how diverse inter-cellular interactions engender functions and dysfunctions of biological systems by inventing techniques for mapping biological networks in subcellular resolution.

In my laboratory at the Department of Bio and Brain Engineering at KAIST, we will continue to push boundaries of 3D anatomical phenotyping techniques. By applying the techniques we develop with state-of-art techniques of neuroscience, we will discover hidden aspect of brain network operation. Moreover, based on the in-depth knowledge on brain network, we will engineer inter-cellular interaction of the brain to develop novel therapeutics for brain diseases.
